Enhance Your Eye Health
When was the last time you had your eyes checked? Whenever it was, you should know that comprehensive eye exams are the key to protecting your vision. Optimal visual health contributes to your overall well-being.
Routine eye checkups can help ensure your prescription is accurate and detect signs of eye diseases so they can be treated as early as possible. While chatting with your optometrist, be sure to mention any discomfort you feel while using your computer.
Eye Exam Frequency for Your Age
How often you get an eye exam will vary depending on your age, medical health, and risk factors. The Optical Connection follows the recommendations set out by the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Adult Eye Exams: Ages 20 to 64
You can help keep your eyes healthy by following the recommended frequency of eye exams:
- Age 20 to 39: an eye exam every 2 to 3 years
- Age 40 to 64: an eye exam every 2 years
Senior Eye Exams: Ages 65+
As we age, so do our eyes—they’ve been working since the day you were born!
So, once you reach age 65, it’s essential to have an eye exam annually to detect the onset of common age-related eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration that can develop without showing symptoms.
What to Expect During an Eye Exam
Before your eye exam, we’ll sit down with you to discuss your medical history and eye health, current medications, and any eye-related concerns you have. We’ll also ask about your family medical history, as some eye diseases can be genetic.
To evaluate and assess your ocular health accurately, we’ll use our advanced technology to test your eyes for:
- Visual acuity (clarity and sharpness)
- Visual field (blind spots and peripheral vision)
- Depth perception
- Eye coordination and movement
- Colour vision
- Eye pressure
- Corneal health
- Eye diseases
To conclude the exam, your optometrist will explain your results and guide you onto the next steps, which could be further testing, fitting your contact lenses, or selecting new frames from our impressive selection in the showroom.
