If you’re interested in learning more about laser eye surgery and what it can do for you, book a consultation today! We’ll perform an eye exam to get an overview of your visual needs and discuss all of the options available to you.
Types of Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a group of surgical procedures that are designed to permanently correct refractive errors.
At The Optical Connection, we offer consultations for:
LASIK
LASIK is a popular refractive surgery that uses a laser to reshape the cornea. LASIK can correct refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea.
SMILE
SMILE stands for “small incision lenticule extraction.” This laser eye surgery is an alternative to LASIK and also corrects nearsightedness. Unlike LASIK, SMILE only makes a small incision, which can decrease the side effects associated with laser eye surgery, such as dry eye.
Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
Photorefractive Keratectomy, or PRK, is yet another laser eye surgery that can correct refractive errors. Unfortunately, some patients are unable to receive LASIK surgery due to their cornea being too thin. PRK solves this issue by using a different technique to reshape the cornea with similar results.
Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
An implantable collamer lens (ICL) is an artificial lens that’s permanently implanted in the eye during surgery to treat refractive errors. In addition to decreasing refractive errors, an ICL is less likely to cause dry eye, can improve night vision, and has little recovery time compared to other laser eye surgeries.
Eye Surgery: What to Expect
Before Your Appointment
During your consultation, we will go over all the information you need to know about your surgery. All you need to do is book time off work to heal, and we’ll do the rest!
During Your Appointment
Please avoid wearing any skin products or clothes made of fleece or wool on the day of your surgery. Depending on the type of surgery you are receiving, your doctor may give you an anesthetic. Laser eye surgery usually doesn’t last long, but it depends on the procedure you are getting done.
After Your Appointment
After your appointment, we will go over any post-procedure care instructions at your consultation so you know how to take care of your eyes following the procedure.
In general, it is best to give yourself lots of time to rest and avoid touching your eyes.
